How I Design Things

These principles come from the field; from lessons learned, mistakes made, and moments when the right design just clicked. They’re how I stay grounded and intentional in everything I create.

1

Empathetic and Inclusive Approach

For me, it always starts with listening. Whether it’s a user interview or a bit of unexpected feedback from someone struggling with an interface, I pay attention. Over time, I’ve learned that empathy is more than a design buzzword, it’s the bridge between intention and real-world impact. I take time to understand the frustrations behind the clicks and taps, and I don’t stop at just designing for the “average” user. Accessibility and inclusivity are non-negotiable for me, and I test with real people from diverse backgrounds to make sure what I’ve designed truly works for all.

2

Purposeful Simplicity

There’s something elegant about a design that just makes sense—the kind that doesn’t need an explanation. I’ve learned that simplicity isn’t about stripping things away until nothing is left; it’s about keeping only what matters. I love untangling complexity, turning cluttered flows into clean, intuitive journeys. It’s a bit like editing a good story; you keep refining until the message is clear, and nothing distracts from the core.

3

Consistent and Scalable Systems

I’ve seen how quickly things can unravel without a solid foundation. That’s why I’m passionate about building and maintaining design systems that don’t just look good, but actually scale. I make sure every component has a purpose, fits the bigger picture, and plays well with engineering. For me, consistency isn’t about rigidity, it’s about giving teams a shared language so we can move fast together, without losing sight of quality.

4

Informed Decision-Making

Design, to me, is part intuition and part detective work. I dig into data, sure but I also gather stories, edge cases, tensions. When numbers clash with anecdotes, I bring people together in workshops to unpack what’s really going on. The best decisions I’ve been part of didn’t come from certainty, they came from alignment. And I always keep one eye on the ethics: will this build trust, not just clicks?
